70 children picket school board

Nearly Seven Locks children picketed the school board at its May 1 meeting, denouncing the panel's majority for the decision to shut down their school and scatter them to four other schools.

As the Gazette reported, "A noisy crowd awaited school officials pulling into the Board of Education parking lot in Rockville for a public hearing Monday on the fate of Seven Locks Elementary School."

"We're marching to save our school," said 10 year-old Alta Markley. "And if this doesn't do it, at least we tried."
